Braden PD17A Planetary Hoist — 17,500 lb Hydraulic Winch
The PD17A is a two-speed machine, and that's the whole point of it. With a variable displacement piston motor it pulls 17,500 lb at 127 fpm in low, or 11,490 lb at 269 fpm in high. On a crane cycling loads all day, being able to move light hooks fast and heavy loads slow without changing anything mechanical is worth real money in throughput.
The 47:1 reduction and a 13" barrel on a 21.5" flange give 602 ft of 3/4" rope at layer 5. The grooved drum is standard rather than optional here, which keeps spooling tidy under the kind of side loading these units see on offshore and platform work.
Unit weight runs 970 to 1,290 lb depending on motor. Controlled freefall is available; straight freefall is not.
